2016-2017 St. Scholastica Band
Handbook QuickStart Guide!
Welcome back to another great year with the St. Scholastica Band Program! It's a little different this year because there was no registration day at school, but rest assured everything will be fine.
Please make sure Mr. Marcotte has your correct email, so that we can better communicate with you!
Here's how you register for band. JUST SHOW UP. I will send a registration form home with your student. The 5th-8th Grade Bands meet after school, and students must be picked up outside the parish office within 5 minutes of the pick up time. After that, your student will be sent to After Care. Wish I could stay around, but I have to get my kids to soccer, scouts, swim team etc...!
BAND BEGINS IN SEPTEMBER!
There is no band in August. If you come to band in August, no one will be there.
TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 6th!
7th and 8th GRADE BAND BEGINS! 2:30-3:55! Please send a healthy snack and
pick up your student PROMPTLY at 3:55PM.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th!
4th GRADE INSTRUMENT TRYOUT DAY DURING SCHOOL!
4th Graders will be given a choice to try a couple of instruments and pick one of them.
It's like visiting Ollivander's Wand Emporium, except louder.
4th Grade Band is SEPARATE from the 5th Grade Band. 1:45-2:30 Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
4th Grade does not meet after school, so you do not have to worry
about picking up your students later in the day.
Mr. Marcotte is combining a 4th Grade reading period with band:
students will rehearse one or both days, and bring books to read when Mr. Marcotte
is working with individuals or groups of instruments!

Students are expected to get along. Seriously. No screaming or whining. Just chill out and try to learn your instrument. Band is supposed to be fun. Students need to bring their instruments and supplies to band. I have extra instruments if they forget, but only a couple of students! Families must now reimburse the band program for reeds and other supplies. Reeds are $2 each. We will have a field trip and “Fun Days” as rewards for good learning and behavior. No quitting until the semester, or preferably at all! If a student wants to switch instruments, this is typically done after a concert.
Come on. Fifteen minutes a day. It is SOOOOO easy! Make it part of the homework routine. Really, really learn to read the notes and not just make noise. Practice forms will be made available, and students can earn trophies for most hours practiced!
I have a list of teachers in the area. Q and F now has teachers!
